Paper considers the main stages of compilation of the State Geological Map of the Russian Federation, scale 1:1,000,000. The state of works on the State Geological Map of the Russian Federation, scale 1:1,000,000 of the third generation is described. The issues, challenges, and future prospects for the state geological mapping at this scale are outlined.
